Crash that shut down part of I-85 north in University City area now cleared

Alternate routes were advised.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Part of I-85's northbound lanes in the University City area was closed down Friday night after a crash.

NCDOT reports the crash happened near the exit to University City Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m. The cause of the crash wasn't known, but the agency expected high impacts to traffic until the scene cleared out.

WCNC Charlotte has asked Medic if anyone was injured in the crash. The agency confirmed three patients were taken away for treatment with serious injuries. The scene was eventually cleared before 11 p.m.
