Busy Charlotte street re-opened after accident leads to downed power lines

CMPD officials advised avoiding the area until crews clear the lines from the roadway.

Inbound Central Avenue was shut down past Louis Avenue after an accident in which a telephone pole was struck, police say.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department officials advised avoiding the area while crews cleared the lines from the roadway.

Outbound Central Avenue at Thomas Avenue up to Central Avenue and The Plaza was shut down as well, due to previous accidents.

According to Medic, one patient was treated for life-threatening injuries.

At 9:15 p.m., CMPD said all of Central Avenue had reopened, except for one lane. The remaining closed lane was to be worked on by Duke Power Crews, as power lines were still down.
