CHARLOTTE, N.C. — First responders are advising drivers who usually take I-85 northbound to find alternate routes after a crash late Saturday evening.
Charlotte Fire confirmed a car crash led to a vehicle fire on the interstate, and that one person was burned. Medic confirmed the patient was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, and that the car involved was engulfed in flames.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department asked drivers to avoid the area since the roadway was shut down for the investigation and cleanup. An alert from the North Carolina Department of Transportation advised that the roadway likely wouldn't be cleared until nearly 3 a.m.
WCNC Charlotte viewer Robert Lanier shared a photo of the stopped-up traffic on the interstate around 11 p.m., showing cars stopped near Graham Street.
