CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Riders of the Charlotte Area Transit System buses and trains can now purchase new tickets using the CATS app or website. The service was restored, and payments are being accepted after an outage impacted purchasing for much of the day Monday.
CATS has not provided further details on the restoration process.
The technical outage prevented the purchase of new ticket fares using the CATS-Pass App or online pass sales, the transit system announced Monday. The issue impacted transit services city-wide.
During the outage, riders who had previously purchased digital tickets could still redeem those tickets from within the app for travel needs. Those needing to purchase new passes on the system's Lynx Blue Line light rail or CityLynx Gold Line streetcar could purchase passes using in-person kiosks near station platforms. Bus riders could purchase tickets using exact change.
During the outage, riders attempting to purchase tickets online or through the CATS-Pass app received the following message:
The CATS-Pass app for Apple iPhones and Android devices was launched in 2021.
The city's transit bus system began new management this year. National Express Transit took over management from RAPTDev, who did not submit a bid to continue operations after years of problems including staffing shortages and concerns about driver safety.
