Free bus rides on Election Day

The city transit system says it wants to provide easier access to polling locations.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Numerous Charlotte-area transit systems will offer free rides on Election Day to increase accessibility for voters.

The Charlotte Area Transit System, Salisbury Transit and Union County Transportation confirmed they will offer free rides on Tuesday. CATS will also offer free light rail and street car rides.

In Charlotte, the free fares are only applicable for Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Additionally, Salisbury Transit says the free rides are only eligible between 6 a.m. and 7: 10 p.m.

Union County Transportation is providing free rides to and from polling locations on Election Day for registered riders. Their services are by appointment only. To register for the service and make an appointment, riders can visit unioncountync.gov/transportation.
