CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Only one lane of Independence Boulevard outbound is open beyond Albemarle Road after a crash involving a truck pulling a trailer.
Drivers heading westbound on Independence, also known as U.S. 74, toward Matthews will have to use the left shoulder to bypass the crash. The crash occurred between North Sharmon Amity Road and Idlewild Road.
Traffic delays stretch back to before the interchange with Albemarle Road, also known as North Carolina State Road 27.
One person was transported by Medic to Atrium Health Carolina Medical Center Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Charlotte Fire Department were working to clear the crash.
Drivers should expect heavier than usual delays for the evening rush hour.
