Crash shuts down busy stretch of Wilkinson Blvd in west Charlotte

A busy stretch of Wilkinson Boulevard is closed in both directions after a crash knocked down power lines in west Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A stretch of Wilkinson Boulevard is closed in west Charlotte after a crash knocked down power lines and a utility pole, officials said. 

The crash happened at the intersection of Wilkinson and Westerly Hills Drive, near the Carolina Golf Club. The road is closed in both directions due to the power lines and utility pole being on the entire road. Traffic signals are also out due to the crash.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area until further notice.

It's unclear if anyone was hurt in the crash or if charges will be filed. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the road will stay closed until around 3 p.m.
