GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — All lanes of Interstate 85 are back open after a serious crash involving an 18-wheeler in Gaston County, according to North Carolina DOT.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. along I-85 south near mile-marker 13 and the exit for Edgewood Road. According to DriveNC, the road reopened just after 10 a.m. Crews initially said it could be closed until 1 p.m.
Traffic was backed up for miles toward Lowell and McAdenville due to the road closure.
Gaston County officials told WCNC Charlotte two vehicles were involved in the crash, including a tractor-trailer that flipped over. Hazmat crews responded to the crash due to possible spilled fluids from the truck. Officials said five people were involved with the crash but no one was taken to the hospital.
ALTERNATE ROUTES
