CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A deadly crash led to part of I-485 Outer in southwest Charlotte being shut down Thursday afternoon. A 13-year-old girl has died, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) said it happened near I-77 South around 4:10 p.m. The road prior to the crash site was shut down, and drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
NCSHP said the person driving an SUV lost control on a flyover ramp on I-77 South, then overturned onto I-485. At that point, the vehicle was hit by a FedEx truck.
Medic confirmed to WCNC Charlotte one person was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. The victim, a 13-year-old-girl, has not been identified at this time beyond her age. There were three additional patients as well, but their conditions are not known.
Traffic backup extended up to the Steele Creek Road area after the crash.
A viewer shared a photo with WCNC Charlotte showing a group of people working to push a car back upright that was involved in the crash. The car was on its left side as the five drivers pushed to set it upright.
