Alcohol suspected in deadly head-on crash, police say

No charges have been filed at this time.

HICKORY, N.C. — A suspected drunk driver was killed in a head-on crash in Hickory Monday afternoon, police said. 

The crash happened along Highland Avenue Northeast around 4:30 p.m. The driver of a 2007 Nissan Titan pickup truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, causing a Ford SUV to swerve off the road and crash into a fence, according to police

The driver of the Nissan continued driving on the wrong side of the road until they crashed into a Toyota Rav-4 head-on. The driver of the Toyota was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center with significant injuries. She was later taken to a Winston-Salem hospital for further treatment, police said. The driver of the Nissan truck, Sebastian Remigio, was pronounced dead on scene by paramedics.

Alcohol and speed are suspected factors in the wreck, according to Hickory Police. No charges have been filed as of Tuesday morning. Anyone who saw the crash or has any information about this incident is asked to call Hickory police at 828-328-5551.
