CHARLOTTE, N.C. — (The video above is from the 11 pm newscast on Sunday, Sept. 5)
One person is dead after a major crash from Sunday night, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Officers said the crash reportedly happened in the 6400 block of Idlewild Road just after 8:20 p.m.
Two vehicles were involved, according to investigators. A 2017 GMC Sierra was at the scene with front end damage and a 2009 Cadillac DTS with damage to the passenger side.
Officers say the Cadillac was attempting to make a left-hand turn on to East Independence Expressway on-ramp and ended up in the path of the GMC.
The passenger of the Cadillac, Frances Mobley, 78, was taken to the hospital were she later died from her injuries. Investigators say all other occupants from the GMC and Cadillac were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to authorities, major thoroughfares around Conference, Idlewild and Independence were shut down in all directions.
The roads reopened around 2 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6.
No charges are pending from the crash at this time.
