Lincoln County man killed in head-on crash with tractor-trailer

No charges will be filed in connection with the crash, state troopers said.

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A Denver man was killed in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer in Lincoln County early Wednesday, state troopers said.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on North Carolina 75 near Ralph Ward Trail, a few miles east of Lincolnton, around 3:15 a.m. When troopers arrived, they learned a 2008 Scion crashed head-on into a Peterbilt 18-wheeler. Troopers determined the Scion crossed the center line and hit the truck, which was traveling eastbound toward Denver.

The driver of the Scion was identified as 36-year-old Timothy Kent McDaniel Jr. He was pronounced dead at the scene. McDaniel was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to troopers. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.

Troopers said impairment and speed do not appear to be contributing factors to the crash and don't anticipate any charges in connection with the wreck.
