88-year-old dies in Lincoln County crash

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to a Gastonia hospital with serious injuries, and died at the hospital.

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — An 88-year-old woman has died after a crash in Lincoln County over the weekend, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

It happened around noon on Saturday, July 27. Highway Patrol responded to US 321 Business at Bynum Road. Officials said a person driving a 1990 Chevrolet truck was traveling east on Bynum Road when she tried to turn left onto US 321 Business, and turned in front of a 2003 Honda Odyssey heading south.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to a Gastonia hospital with serious injuries, and she died at the hospital. She has since been identified as 88-year-old Deane Campbell Griffin.

The driver and the three passengers in the Honda all had non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators do not believe impairment or speed were factors in the crash.
