Deadly crash shuts down Sharon Amity Road in east Charlotte

The crash happened on Sharon Amity Road near Central Avenue.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was killed in a crash in east Charlotte on Thursday morning, Medic confirmed.

The crash happened at 7:45 a.m. on Sharon Amity Road, near the intersection with Central Avenue. Officers responded in the 3900 block of North Sharon Amity Road and found a 2021 Toyota RAV4, a 2019 Honda Passport and a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder all damaged in the roadway, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police said the driver of the Toyota RAV4, 50-year-old Daryl Antonie Wright, died on the scene.

Detectives investigated the scene and determined Wright was speeding on North Sharon Amity Road when he hit the Honda Passport. The Toyota flipped and hit the Nissan Pathfinder and a utility pole.

The drivers of the Honda and the Nissan were minorly injured in the crash.

All lanes of Sharon Amity Road were closed between Central Avenue and Wilora Lake Drive for the investigation.

Drivers could take Eastway Drive or W.T. Harris Boulevard as alternate routes to Independence Boulevard. CMPD hasn't identified the person who was killed or determined if any charges will be filed.
