CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man who was seriously injured in a crash in south Charlotte last weekend died on Tuesday, detectives said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a crash on Providence Road near Cherokee Road around 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 7. When officers arrived, they found a 1990 GMC pickup and a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali that were involved in the crash. The driver of the pickup, 87-year-old Carl Daniel Gardner, was taken to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.
Gardner died from his injuries on Tuesday, CMPD said.
Investigators say the driver of the Yukon was stopped to make a left turn onto Cherokee Road when Gardner failed to slow down, crashing into the SUV. Gardner was not speeding and impairment was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
