Deadly crash shuts down US 64 in Burke County

The crash happened near Baker Farm Road around 7 a.m., state troopers said.

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — At least one person was killed in a crash on U.S. 64 in Burke County on Monday, state troopers confirmed.

Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 64 near Baker Farm Road, south of Morganton, around 7 a.m. Monday.

According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 31-year-old Aaron Nicholas Langley of Ellensboro, North Carolina, was driving a 2000 Nissan Xterra northbound on U.S. 64 when he reported tried to pass another northbound vehicle. However, he hit a southbound 2020 Freightliner utility truck head on, which caused his vehicle to catch on fire and trap him inside.
