CMPD officer taken to hospital after crash in west Charlotte

A CMPD officer was hurt when another vehicle crashed into his police cruiser on Freedom Drive Monday morning, investigators said.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Editor's note: This story originally stated the crash involved a pedestrian. 

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer was taken to the hospital after his cruiser was hit by another vehicle on Freedom Drive in west Charlotte Monday morning, police said. 

Emergency crews responded to a crash on Freedom Drive near Forest Lawn Cemetery around 6 a.m. The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to CMPD.

The road reopened shortly after 7 a.m. At one point, crews closed all lanes of Freedom Drive while the crash was investigated and the scene was cleared.
