CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Another change and possibly another headache could be looming for drivers on I-77 next month.
As part of the I-77 toll lane construction project, the northbound HOV lane between I-85 and I-485 north of uptown will be closed.
I-77 Mobility Partners says this is just another step in the toll lane project, but many drivers say it’s another roadblock for their commute. The construction group defended the closure, saying it’s a safety measure to protect crews that work along the highway, giving them extra room to complete direct-connect ramps onto the express lanes.
Officials say the project is still on track to be completed by the end of 2018.
