DAVIDSON, N.C. — All northbound lanes of I-77 near Davidson were shut down due to an accident involving a school bus and an 18-wheeler, Tuesday evening that left four people injured.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say this accident was a hit-and-run involving a Charlotte Mecklenburg school bus.
Officials with CMS say there were four students on board, and none of them were injured.
According to the DriveNC map, the crash on the highway happened around 5 p.m. near the exit to Davidson. The scene was on part of the highway that spans across Lake Norman, specifically over Gambles Creek.
Four people were injured in the crash and were transported to a nearby hospital, according to Medic. Two of the people suffered serious injuries in the crash. Their condition at this time is unknown. WCNC Charlotte is working to learn more about the crash.
Traffic was at one point backed up past the northbound exit to Cornelius. The North Carolina Department of Transportation estimated northbound lanes would reopen around 6:19 p.m.
The scene cleared shortly after 6:20 p.m., although the express lane remained closed afterward. Severe delays were still seen into Tuesday night.
