I-40 West in Durham reopens after crash involving 32 vehicles during severe storms

A crash involving 32 vehicles shut down a portion of Interstate 40 while severe weather was moving across North Carolina Tuesday, officials said.

DURHAM, N.C. — Interstate 40 westbound in Durham reopened Tuesday evening after severe storms caused a crash involving 32 vehicles, according to Durham police.

I-40 West was closed between Exit 274 and Exit 276 after the crash happened around 4:44 p.m. The interstate was closed east of N.C. Highway 751.

WRAL News spoke with a woman named Kelly who was involved in the crash.

“I’m feeling my leg swelling,” she said. “It feels bruised -- my calf -- but no blood. I’m thankful for that.”

No one was seriously injured in the crash, according to WRAL.
