I-485 reopens in northeast Charlotte after crash causes major delays Friday

Three lanes of the outer loop were blocked near Mallard Creek Church Road due to a crash.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Multiple lanes of the Interstate 485 outer loop were blocked in northeast Charlotte on Friday afternoon due to a crash.

The wreck happened on the outer loop just before Exit 28 for Mallard Creek Church Road. The three left lanes were blocked by the crash for several hours, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT)

Traffic cameras in the area showed multiple vehicles involved, including a pickup truck with a pull-behind camper. Two cars appeared to have damage as well.

Drivers experienced delays in the area for the next hour while crews worked to clear the scene. It's unclear if anyone was hurt in the crash. The outer loop was backed up to the interchange with Interstate 85.
