The crash happened just north of Langtree Road in Mooresville, backing traffic up for miles near Lake Norman.

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — The southbound lanes of Interstate 77 were closed Friday afternoon due to a crash in Mooresville, NCDOT said.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area if possible to avoid backups. North Carolina 115 was suggested as an alternate route around the crash. Drivers were also able to take Langtree Road to I-77 south of the crash location.

Minutes after the crash happened, traffic backed up about 2 miles all the way back to Brawley School Road.
