HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — All lanes of Interstate 77 near Huntersville have reopened after being closed late Tuesday morning.
Wires had fallen on the roadway and shutdown lanes, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol. The incident happened near the Interstate 77 express toll lanes construction project.
At the height of the closure., delays stretched back several miles while the roadway was shut. All southbound traffic had been diverted onto Gilead Road so drivers could use Highway 21 / Statesville Road as a detour.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The northbound lanes were also subject to closure while crews worked to removed the downed cables.
