CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Southbound lanes of Interstate 85 in northwest Charlotte were closed due to a deadly incident, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said. All lanes have since reopened.
The incident happened on I-85 South between the I-77 interchange and exit 37, which is for Beatties Ford Road, according to officials. NCDOT said the ramp from I-77 to I-85 South was closed due to a fatality. Further details about the cause of the death have not been made public.
NCDOT said the road was expected to be closed until around 8 a.m., though by 6:50 a.m. all lanes had reopened.
There's no word yet on what caused the crash at the time. WCNC Charlotte has asked the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for more information on what happened.
