KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Multiple lanes of Interstate 85 in Kannapolis will be blocked until Tuesday afternoon due to a fuel spill and crash, officials said.
The crash happened around 6:15 a.m. on the northbound side of I-85 near Exit 63, which is for Lane Street in Kannapolis. Three of four lanes of I-85 were closed, according to DriveNC.
The crash involves a fuel spill. NCDOT said the lanes will remain closed until 12:50 p.m.
As of 7:20 a.m., traffic was backed up several miles to Dale Earnhardt Boulevard. Drivers should expect delays through the Kannapolis and China Grove area through lunchtime.
Drivers can use U.S. 29 as an alternate route around the crash.
