IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Two people, including a 16-year-old, were killed in a head-on crash in Iredell County Monday morning, state troopers said.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol was called to a crash on Highway 90 near Lippard Farm Road a few minutes before 8:30 a.m. When state troopers got to the scene, they found a 2007 Infiniti G35 was traveling west when the driver lost control, crossed the centerline and hit a box truck head-on.
The driver of the Infiniti, identified as 41-year-old Brandy Renee Redmon, was pronounced dead at the scene, as was a 16-year-old passenger. The driver of the box truck was taken to a nearby trauma center with serious injuries.
Highway Patrol said the initial investigation shows that Redmon was driving too fast for the road conditions during Monday morning's storms. The tires on her vehicle also contributed to the crash.
The road was closed for nearly three hours for the investigation. Heavy rain and a wintry mix moved through parts of Iredell County Monday morning as part of a winter storm that brought heavy snow to North Carolina and mountains and rain to the Charlotte metro area.
Over 2 inches of rain fell in Charlotte, with some of the higher elevations expected to receive up to 8" of snowfall Monday.
