Her vice presidential motorcade caused temporary road closures on Charlotte roadways including Interstate 77, Interstate 277 and Independence Blvd.

Ahead of the event, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said drivers could expect major traffic delays around Bojangles Coliseum throughout the day. There were intermittent road closures along several major roads.

Traffic delays began around Charlotte Douglas International Airport at 2:30 p.m.

Both campaigns have spent considerable time and money in North Carolina with former President Donald Trump visiting Charlotte last Friday.

Recent polling from WRAL shows Harris with a razor-thin margin over Trump. The latest poll indicates a major shift since March when Trump led President Joe Biden by 5 percentage points. He argued that he would be tougher on prosecuting crime than Harris and claimed that not only are neighborhoods less safe for Americans, but they are also more dangerous for police.

Harris was last in North Carolina on Aug. 16 when she promoted a broad set of economic proposals including new tax breaks and a plan to lower the cost of living for Americans. Among those proposals is a federal ban on grocery price gouging. She also proposed $25,000 in down payment assistance for certain first-time homebuyers and tax incentives for builders of starter homes.
