Monroe Expressway toll rate increase takes effect Monday

Toll revenues are used to maintain toll operations and pay off construction bonds.

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Starting Monday, some drivers in the Charlotte area will be paying more to get around faster.

The North Carolina Turnpike Authority Board is reminding drivers that the annual toll rate increase for the Monroe Expressway goes into effect on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

Drivers with an NC Quick Pass traveling the full length of the Monroe Expressway in a Class 1 or 2-axle vehicle will see a toll rate increase of 8 cents to $2.85. This is almost a 3% increase over last year's toll rates.
