Motorcyclist dies after hitting pickup truck

According to CMPD, preliminary reports show the motorcyclist was riding northwest on Lawyers Road at a high rate of speed when he hit the truck.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The motorcyclist killed during a crash on Oct. 11 has been identified.

Around 7:30 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to a wreck in the 8000 block of Lawyers Road in southeast Charlotte. When they arrived on the scene, they found a 2024 Dodge Ram 2500 Big Horn pickup truck with significant damage to its front end and a 2007 Honda Shadow VT750 which was partially underneath the truck.

The motorcyclist, later identified as 26-year-old Thomas Kardos III, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to CMPD, preliminary reports show Kardos was riding northwest on Lawyers Road at a high rate of speed when he hit the truck as the driver was trying to turn left on Harri Ann Drive. Toxicology reports on Kardos are pending. 

The driver of the pickup, Angel Sanchez Medina, 28, was not injured during the crash and stayed on the scene to cooperate with the investigation. 

CMPD considers this investigation ongoing and active.
