Driver ran stop sign, killing motorcyclist: CMPD says

Dennis Paul Kosh, 47, passed away from his injuries later at the hospital.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man died Sunday morning after a major crash on Old Statesville Road in Charlotte.

Preliminary investigations show Dennis Paul Koch, 47, was riding a motorcycle in the 6500 block of Old Statesville Road when 44-year-old Vernetta Laverne Beatty-Cypriani ran a stop sign at Oak Drive and hit Koch's motorcycle, throwing him and his passenger off of the Harley Davidson.

Koch and his passenger were taken the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Koch passed away at the hospital. The status of his passenger is unknown at this time. Cypriani was not injured.

Cypriani stayed on the scene after hitting Koch and his passenger. She is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and remains in the custody of Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. 

Investigators said neither speed nor impairment appear to have contributed to this wreck, but the crash is still being investigated.
