CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was thrown from a car and died in an accident Friday night in southwest Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
It happened around 3:00 p.m. in the 900 block of Archdale Dr. Police said the driver, Jose Mario Mejia Gutierrez, was taken to the hospital, and the passenger, Faustino Israel Ponce Romero, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators said the vehicle ran off the road, hit a tree, separated in half, and that's when Romero was thrown out.
Gutierrez was charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, no operators license, failure to maintain insurance on the scion, and failing to register his car.
The crash remained under investigation.
