One killed in crash involving school bus in York

State troopers said a vehicle passing the bus crashed into a truck, and one of the vehicles hit the bus.

YORK, S.C. — One person was killed in a crash involving a school bus on Highway 49 in York early Tuesday morning, state troopers said. 

A spokesperson for York County School District 1 said there were two staff members on the bus at the time of the crash. No students were on board, and neither worker was hurt in the wreck. 

State troopers said a pickup truck passing the bus crashed into a car, and one of the vehicles hit the bus. 

John Okain, 45, of York was the driver of a car that was struck head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the county coroner.

The driver of the truck, 31-year-old Jeremy Brown, was taken to the hospital. His condition was unknown.

Autopsy and toxicology results are pending. No charged have been filed. Highway Patrol was investigating the crash.
