CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The outer loop of Interstate 485 near Providence Road in south Charlotte has reopened after a crash on Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened on the outer loop near mile-marker 57, which is for Providence Road. This is one of the busiest stretches of I-485 during rush hour each day.
According to DriveNC.gov, the road opened back up around 6 p.m. Drivers should avoid the area if possible until further notice due to heavy backups and congestion.
As of 3:50 p.m., traffic has backed up to Johnston Road on the outer loop of I-485.
I-485 DETOUR
- Drivers should take exist 57 (North Carolina 16/Providence Road)
- Turn left onto NC 16, head north for 3 miles
- Turn right on NC 51 East for 5 miles
- Turn right onto U.S. 74 and head east for 1 mile
- Exit onto I-485
