CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A retired Charlotte Fire Department Captain was killed in a crash that closed I-485 near Mint Hill Wednesday night, officials said.
The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol found that a three-car collision occurred at mile marker 43 before being moved to the median.
The driver of one of those three vehicles called and spoke with his father, later identified as Anthony Moore of Charlotte, who then traveled to the scene to assist his son, troopers said. As he was dropped off he attempted to cross the interstate. As he did so, he was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck.
Shortly after the crash, the Charlotte Fire Department posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that Tony Moore, a retired captain, had died in a crash.
WCNC Charlotte has reached out to Mint Hill Fire Department for more information about the incident.
