LENOIR, N.C. — One person has died after a crash in Caldwell County on Wednesday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
It happened around 6 p.m. on US 321 North near Roby Martin Road. Highway Patrol said a driver was heading south on a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle and didn't adequately slow down, and collided with a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder that was also heading south.
The motorcycle driver, identified as 49-year-old Stephen Swafford, was thrown from the motorcycle, and died at the scene due to his injuries. The driver of the Pathfinder was not hurt.
At this point in the investigation, officials believe excessive speed contributed to the crash. No charges will be filed.
