ROCK HILL, S.C. — Expect traffic impacts in Rock Hill on Saturday as a truck carrying an oversized load moves new Duke Energy equipment to the Catawba Nuclear Station.
Beginning around 8 a.m. on Saturday, new transformer equipment for the power company will be moved from railroad tracks near Winthrop University to the power plant about 13 miles away. The equipment arrived by train and will arrive at its final destination by truck.
Officials warn of traffic delays and slowdowns along the route:
- Starts at Winthrop University on Alumni Drive (Rock Hill)
- Left on S. Cherry Road (Rock Hill)
- Right on S.C. 901/Heckle Boulevard; becomes Old York Road
- Right on Hands Mill Highway/Highway 274 (Rock Hill/York)
- Right on Concord Road (York)
"Understand this will cause traffic delays due to the immense size of the transformer," the Rock Hill, South Carolina Police Department wrote on Facebook.
Duke Energy says equipment like this "helps to deliver clean, life-essential electricity around the clock."
