CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A section of Selwyn Avenue is back open near Myers Park High School after a crash damaged power lines in the area Thursday morning.
The crash happened around 5 a.m. along Selwyn at the intersection with Hillside Avenue, which is near Colony Road and the Selwyn Avenue Pub. According to Duke Energy's outage map, around 500 customers were without power.
Selwyn was closed in both directions for several hours while crews worked to repair the power lines. Drivers should avoid the area. Sharon Road and Park Road can be used as alternate routes to Woodlawn Road and Runnymede Lane.
Drivers in the Charlotte area should expect a slower commute on Thursday due to widespread rain across the Carolinas. Weather Impact forecaster Larry Sprinkle says Thursday's high temperature will only reach the mid-40s with periods of heavy rain likely.
