US 321 back open after deadly crash near Lincolnton

The crash happened two miles south of Exit 28, near Maiden highway.

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — All lanes of U.S. 321 are back open after a deadly crash in Lincoln County Thursday morning.

Lincoln County crews responded to a crash near Exit 28 around 5 a.m. involving two cars. State troopers confirmed one person was killed in the wreck.

NC State Highway Patrol confirmed a 2011 Ford van was stopped in the right lane of US 321 South. The agency says a tractor trailer hit the van, killing the driver.

Troopers identified the victim as Anthony Valverde, 23, of Fort Mill.

The southbound lanes of 321 were closed between exits 28 and 24 while officials investigated the crash and cleared the scene. The driver of the tractor-tailer was not injured.
