Wilkinson Boulevard reopens after serious crash near Charlotte airport

The crash happened on the inbound lanes of Wilkinson Boulevard near Charlotte Douglas International Airport around 8:30 a.m.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — At least nine vehicles were involved in a serious crash on Wilkinson Boulevard near Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said. 

The crash happened along inbound Wilkinson Boulevard at Old Dowd Road around 8:30 a.m. Medic confirmed at least four people were injured in the crash. Multiple agencies responded to the wreck, including CMPD and Charlotte Fire. 

The inbound lanes of Wilkinson Boulevard were closed while crews work to clear the scene and investigate the crash. The road reopened around 10:30 a.m. Wilkinson Boulevard was backed up to the Catawba River Bridge with traffic as a result of the crash.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area. Moores Chapel Road to I-85 is a detour around the closure, according to CMPD.
