CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A portion of Shopton Road in southwest Charlotte will close for a week to allow for bridge repair.
Beginning as early as April 29, the North Carolina Department of Transportation will close Shopton Road to repair the bridge over Coffey Creek. The road will be closed between Ayrshire Glen Pace and Laurel Valley Road. This section of roadway is located just west of Beam Road and South Tryon Street.
Once construction work begins, the bridge is expected to remain closed for a week, according to the NCDOT.
Officials will post a detour directing drivers to use South Tryon Street (also known as North Carolina Route 49), Arrowood Road and Sandy Porter Road.
The closure will allow bridge crews to repair one of the beams on the bridge, according to the NC DOT. Repairs will also be made to the asphalt bridge deck used as the roadway surface.
