Union County road shut down after deadly crash

One person was killed in a crash near Parkwood Middle School and Parkwood High School. Drivers should avoid the area if possible.

LANCASTER, S.C. — One person was killed in a crash on South Rocky River Road at Lancaster Highway in Union County, emergency officials confirmed. 

Union County officials confirmed the crash happened a little before 6 a.m. Tuesday. The crash was reported near Parkwood Middle School and Parkwood High School. Officials said drivers should avoid the area if possible until the scene is cleared. 

North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a vehicle was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer on a double-yellow line when it was hit by another vehicle. The driver who was attempting to pass the tractor-trailer was killed in the crash. Troopers have not identified that person at this time.
