Traffic impacts | Taste of Charlotte returns to Uptown

The festival runs all weekend on Tryon Street, and CATS said its Uptown bus routes will be temporarily adjusted as a result.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Taste of Charlotte is back, and as an estimated 25,000 people gather in Uptown Charlotte to try food from roughly 30 participating restaurants, there are several impacts to traffic and transit to keep in mind to get ahead of any congestion on the roads.

The festival is free to the public, though people have to buy festival coins to use for food, drinks, and kids activities. The festival runs all weekend on Tryon Street, and CATS said it is temporarily adjusting its Uptown bus routes as a result.

Road closures

Several streets in Uptown are closed as part of the event, according to the city of Charlotte.

The following roads closed at 9 a.m. Thursday and will remain closed until 11:30 p.m. Sunday:

  • Tryon Street between Trade Street and Brooklyn Village Avenue
  • 4th Street between Church Street and College Street
  • 3rd Street between Church Street and College Street
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Church Street and College Street
  • Levine Avenue of the Arts

CATS impacts

CATS said both the Gold Line and the Blue Line will be shut down Saturday and Sunday for scheduled maintenance. Rail riders will have a bus bridge serving both lines during the closure. Service for the Blue Line and Gold Line will resume Monday at 5 a.m.

Additionally, there are several impacts to CATS bus routes in Uptown to keep in mind. 

CATS bus routes 1, 7, 8, 16, 22, 26, and 34 along Tryon Street between Brooklyn Village Avenue and Trade Street, as well as the cross streets of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, 3rd Street and 4th Street, will miss the following stops through 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

  • 25650 – 4th Street and Tryon Street
  • 45749 – 4th and Church Street
  • 38420 – 4th and Poplar Street
  • 59660 – 4th and Graham Street
  • 45720 – Trade and Graham Street
  • 44045 – Trade and Church Street
  • 08430 – Trade and College Street
  • 37412 – Tryon Street and Brooklyn Village Avenue
  • 25720 – Tryon and 2nd Street
  • 25660 – Tryon and 3rd Street

Bus routes 40x, 41x, 46x, 48x, 52x, 53x, 61x, 62x, 63x, 64x, 74x, 77x, 82x, 85x, and 88x along Tryon Street between Trade Street and Brooklyn Village Avenue, as well as the cross streets of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, 3rd Street and 4th Street will miss the following stops until 11 p.m. Friday.

  • 25650 – 4th Street and Tryon Street
  • 45749 – 4th and Church Street
  • 38420 – 4th and Poplar Street
  • 45010 – 3rd and Tryon Street
  • 45011 – 3rd and College Street
