CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Monday, Sept., 6, or Labor Day, is the unofficial end of summer. So that means a lot of people are going on that last-minute vacation and taking advantage of the last long weekend before the autumn air takes over.
So when is the best time to travel?
The quickest answer is to this question is before mid-morning. However, a more detailed timetable according to our traffic data company INRIX is:
- Friday: Before 10 a.m.
- Saturday: Before 11 a.m.
- Sunday: Before 10 a.m.
- Monday: Before 11 a.m.
- Tuesday: After 9 p.m.
The worst time to travel:
The early to mid-afternoon regardless of the day is not good but the times will fluctuate per day.
- Friday: Noon to 8:30 p.m.
- Saturday: Noon to 5 p.m.
- Sunday: Noon to 4 p.m.
- Monday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Tuesday: 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Labor Day Weekend Facts:
- Labor Day Weekend is the 2nd most deadly holiday. Memorial Day is the most deadly and dangerous. The 4th of July weekend is number 3 on that list.
- Labor Day is said to be 20% more dangerous than the average holiday
- Up to 52% of traffic deaths during holidays involve someone not using a seat belt
