1 dead, 2 injured in 4-vehicle crash

Mildred Jones, 85, of Troutman died from her injuries. Two other people were injured Tuesday.

TROUTMAN, N.C. — One person is dead and two other people are injured after a crash Tuesday afternoon in Troutman, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. on South Main Street at Autumn Leaf Road, police said. Mildred Jones, 85,turned left from Autumn Leaf Road into the path of a dump truck on South Main Street, resulting in a crash. The dump truck then rolled onto its side, striking a truck pulling a trailer. Police said that second collision resulted in the truck and trailer being forced back into a Troutman Police patrol vehicle. 

Mildred Jones and her passenger, Kenneth Jones, 87, also of Troutman, both suffered serious injuries and were transported to
area medical centers. Mildred Jones later died from her injuries.

The driver of the dump truck, 46-year-old William Wallace of Hudson, North Carolina, was also transported to a medical center. 

Troutman Police said the investigation is ongoing. South Main Street was closed for about three hours during the investigation. 

No criminal charges have been filed at this time. Iredell County EMS, Troutman Fire & Rescue, Troutman Police Department, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation also responded to the incident.
