WAXHAW, N.C. — A parent in Waxhaw is worried about drivers who are passing his child's school bus as he tries to board daily.
Brad Cunningham is calling for action. He said driver after driver blows past the stopped school bus while its stop sign is out.
Cunningham has recorded several videos of his 9-year-old son getting on a Union County school bus.
In a video shot Friday morning, yet another car passed as the 3rd grader tried to board the bus.
"What used to be a very enjoyable part of his day, lately has been a part that he dreads," Cunningham said.
The dad said car after car breaks the law; it's an ongoing issue.
"Last spring it was at least two or three times a week," Cunningham said.
His son is on the autism spectrum, and the noisy danger doesn't help.
"With someone illegally passing the bus, they may hit another vehicle or it can be a chain collision being in an intersection and hit the school bus," Cunningham said.
We've seen close calls before where a student nearly gets hit. Buses in Lancaster County, South Carolina now use cameras to catch offenders.
Cunningham wants the same.
"If drivers know that that's a thing, I could see them being a little more cautious," he said.
NBC Charlotte reached out to Union County Public Schools but have not heard back yet.
