FLETCHER, N.C. — Just two hours west of Charlotte, North Carolina, sits a haven nestled in a tree that people can rent on Airbnb.
The Raven Rock Treehouse is located in Fletcher, North Carolina, and sits high in a tree in the Eastern Continental Divide. For those not super familiar with continental divides in America, this is one of the six in the United States and marks where several drainage basins get diverted into certain bodies of water.
According to Airbnb, this off-the-grid treehouse was the second most-liked Instagram post the company did in 2021.
Here's the thing: This particular Airbnb is definitely rustic.
It's in the midst of a 40-acre wilderness wildlife preserve, according to the posting. Visitors need an all-wheel-drive vehicle to get there, and the bathroom is an off-the-ground Porta Potty about 50 feet from the treehouse itself. People who want to stay there are encouraged to bring their own bedsheets and the only electricity comes from a 500-watt Goal Zero solar generator that can power laptops and cell phones.
There is a gravity-fed spigot that feeds cold water to the treehouse and a six-gallon spring water dispenser. The treehouse also features a miniature wood-burning stove and a propane cooktop.
For those wildlife lovers, the host claims early risers may spot ravens, owls, falcons, grouse, hawks, bobcats, turkeys, foxes and deer. The host maintains the bears in the area are "extremely shy but hungry," and so the post cautions those staying there to store their food properly.
So bust out your binoculars and feast your eyes on the natural wonder of Fletcher, North Carolina, which is known for its limestone quarry and has a population under 10,000 people.
