CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The excitement for the summer travel season has been building for quite a while, but nothing can kill your vacation vibes more than getting to your destination and realizing your luggage has been lost.
Luggage storage company Luggage Hero compiled a report detailing the best and worst U.S. airlines when it comes to handling and mishandling luggage.
According to Luggage Hero, more than 160 million bags were checked by airlines in America in the first half of 2021. Among those checked, there were 692,884 mishandled and lost bags in the first six months of 2021.
Here’s how the airlines stack up according to Luggage Hero.

June is the month with the most luggage problems. In fact, Luggage Hero states 237,000 bags were mishandled in the month of June alone.
If luggage gets lost, make sure to go through the proper channels and procedures to document the issue. Luggage Hero said travelers need to alert the airline as soon as possible, preferably when they’re still at the airport.
Travelers must also file an official report with the airline and make sure they get a copy of that report for their records. Luggage Hero said when luggage is lost on flights within the US, luggage is covered for up to $3,500 per passenger.
