CHARLOTTE, N.C. — LYNX Blue Line will be operating on a Sunday service schedule from Dec. 16 through Dec. 31 due to a shortage in staff, according to CATS.
It comes after 12 CATS employees were exposed to a positive COVID-19 case at a non-work-related event. CATS said the employees attended a private event on Dec. 12, and one of the employees in attendance at the event has since tested positive for COVID-19.
All 12 employees are required to quarantine for 14 days.
None of the employees are customer-facing, CATS said, but are "critical" to the light rail system operation.
“I’m incredibly disappointed in the judgement of these employees," CATS CEO John Lewis said, in part, in a statement. "Their actions will temporarily impact the levels of service we can provide to our community. I ask all CATS employees, riders, and community members to please take this virus seriously.”
CATS is continuing its cleaning measures, including the use of hospital-grade disinfectant on hard surfaces and in-service vehicle cleanings. Face masks are required while riding transit. For riders in need of a mask, they are available for free at the Charlotte Transportation Center at the Customer Service Kiosk.
