CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Douglas International Airport conducted what it calls a full-scale emergency exercise for much of Wednesday, but passengers didn't see disruptions as they get to their flights.
A news release Tuesday said the drill would last from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. It happened indoors in part of the Concourse A Expansion that's still under construction in Phase II. The aim was to test the coordination and response capabilities of several agencies involved in emergency situations.
The drill was closed to both the news media and the public.
Airport leadership notes the drill happened in a controlled environment away from public areas, with no expected impact to daily operations or passenger activity. Passengers may have seen emergency response vehicles and personnel on airport roadways and around the new Concourse A, which is not operational yet.
Dynamic signage was set up along Josh Birmingham Parkway to notify drivers about the drill.
