Delta to offer free Wi-Fi for most domestic flights

This new perk will start rolling out Feb. 1, 2023.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Say goodbye to paying for in-fight Wi-Fi, at least if you're flying Delta. The airline announced it will be providing free Wi-Fi on most domestic flights starting February 1st. The freebie, being fueled by a partnership with T-Mobile, is a first for a major U.S. airline.

During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, Delta CEO Ed Bastian said,  “At work, at home, and everywhere in between, connectivity is essential to daily life, and your journey on Delta should be no different. Our vision has long been to deliver an experience at 30,000 feet that feels similar to what our customers have available on the ground.”

Delta is also planning a new in-flight entertainment mobile platform set to launch this Spring. While Delta's free Wi-Fi will only be available on most domestic flights at first, the airline said international and regional aircraft passengers will get the perk by the end of 2024.

Currently, passengers have to pay for WiFi and the prices vary depending on the plane's service provider.

To access the free Wi-Fi, customers can log in using their Delta SkyMiles account or join SkyMiles for free on the ground or in the air.

The airline also said they don't plan to stop there. Offering free Wi-Fi is just the first step in Delta's plan to provide more personalized travel experiences. People who are SkyMiles members and love drinking Starbucks can link the two for miles as well.
